› how did you produce this code ? can you cite sources ?
• I produced it independently from format documentation and the existing IABSD/OpenBSD tree. I did not read or copy Linux source code.
Sources used:
The published JBD2 on-disk format documentation (https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/filesystems/ext4/journal.html) for descriptor/tag layouts, revoke records, escape handling, commit blocks, checksums,
byte order, and journal-superblock fields.IABSD’s existing validated replay implementation in sys/ufs/ext4fs/ext4fs_journal.c, particularly its checksum interpretation and accepted checksum-v2/v3 formats.
The local definitions in sys/ufs/ext4fs/ext4fs_journal.h.
OpenBSD buffer-cache and durability interfaces in sys/kern/vfs_bio.c, sys/kern/vfs_subr.c, and sys/sys/dkio.h.
Existing IABSD device-flush usage in sys/ufs/ext4fs/ext4fs_orphan.c.
Our Phase 3 ordering specification in sys/ufs/ext4fs/plan.md.
The code was written from those behavioral requirements:
- Encode all JBD2 fields big-endian.
- Write descriptor and escaped payload blocks.
- Flush before writing the commit block.
- Flush the commit block before checkpointing.
- Flush checkpointed home blocks before marking the journal empty.
- Reuse the checksum functions already verified by our recovery fixtures.
The large patch was interrupted, so I will inspect whether any part landed before continuing. I’ll also keep source attribution this explicit for the remaining Phase 3 work.
